Corolla in the Outer Banks, NC…no roads to your vacation rental, you need a high ground clearance vehicle that you can drive along the beach for miles guaranteeing yourself a lack of crowds but plenty of horses.
Hanging out on Capers Island.
Capers Island outside Charleston, SC…again no roads to this island, it can only be reached by boat. However the reward is free oceanfront camping on an amazing beach that stretches for miles.
Camping in Pisgah National Forest.
Black Balsam in Pisgah National Forest, NC…hike yourself in and find a campsite with amazing views.
Going for an early swim at Lake Jocassee.
Lake Jocassee, SC…very little development makes it easy to lose yourself in nature. Crystal clear mountain water is popular with scuba divers and allows you to easily see deep into the water.
Hiking the Alps in Italy.
Rifugios in Italy…I wondered how do you get up the mountains in the Alps to see a sunrise? Turns out you sleep in one of the many Rifugios which provide meals and a warm place to sleep for hikers. Some are so remote they only supplied by helicopter!
